The Mambo Combo Latin Jazz octet opens the concert for Poncho
Sanchez at the Starlight Bowl summer concert 2000. Although
the group is Los Angeles based, its members symbolize the
increasing worldwide popularity of Latin jazz. Five of its
members are imports. The timbalero, David Jackson, is originally
from St Thomas. Bassist Dai is from Japan, Flute and Saxophone
player Sergio de la Trinidad is from Mexico. Trumpeter Martín
Loyato hails from Argentina, while conga player Martin Beijer
is originally from Netherlands, Rounding out the band are
trombonist Gabino Varola, bong, boll and guiro player Louis
Barrigan; and pianist Jose Arellano.
